Merci Caroline

http://www.mmsend52.com/link.cfm?r=101777477&sid=23655020&m=2546816&u=NSTA&j=13630793&s=http://science.nsta.org/enewsletter/2013-04/web_elementary.htm

Il s'agit notamment d'une sélection de sites web fortement recommandés

Comme la page ne sera peut-être pas accessible ad vitam eternam j'en mets une copie.
(je n'ai rien testé mais je pense qu'on peut leur faire confiance)

On the Web: The History of Our Planet

With so much on the web, it's hard to know what's really useful. In this section, you'll find web-related opportunities related to this theme.

The Learning Center
Welcome to Your Personalized Learning Web Space!
The Learning Center is NSTA’s online portal designed to enhance and extend your professional learning experiences. If you are logged into the Learning Center, you can access thousands of resources (many of which are free), a suite of practical tools you can use to manage and document your growth, and like-minded individuals to share ideas with and learn together. The Learning Center has shared a collection of resources relating to The History of Our Planet When you visit the portal you’ll be able to add the resources in this collection to your My Library as well as add other NSTA resources you find. Below is a sample of what is included in this month’s collection:

Archive: Temperature and Earth Climate: Modeling Hot and Cold Planets, January 24, 2013
http://learningcenter.nsta.org/product_detail.aspx?id=10.2505/9/WSNES13_Jan24

This web seminar took place on January 24, 2012. The presenter was Rudo Kashiri, NASA Explorer Schools Education Specialist at NASA Langley Research Center. In this program Kashiri talked about a lesson that allows students to work with data collected from NASA satellites to determine the climate of different planets. For more information about this web seminar, its presenter(s), read what participants said about it, and to see and download its PowerPoint slides go here.

Solar System: The Earth in Space
http://learningcenter.nsta.org/product_detail.aspx?id=10.2505/7/SCB-SS.1.1
Science Objects are two hour on-line interactive inquiry-based content modules that help teachers better understand the science content they teach. This Science Object is the first of four Science Objects in the Solar System SciPack. It provides an understanding of where Earth is located in space and explores evidence used by astronomers to place Earth at this location. Earth is a relatively small planet and the third from the Sun in our solar system. The Sun is the central and largest body in the solar system. Our still-growing knowledge of the solar system comes to us in part by direct observation from Earth, including the use of optical, radio, and x-ray telescopes that are sensitive to a broad spectrum of information coming to us from space; computers that can undertake increasingly complicated calculations, find patterns in data, and support or reject theories about the origins of the solar system; and space probes that send back detailed pictures and other data from distant planets.

Archive: Properties of Living Things: Fingerprints of Life, February 14, 2012
This web seminar took place on February 14, 2012.
http://learningcenter.nsta.org/product_detail.aspx?id=10.2505/9/WSNES12_Feb14
Presenting was Rudo Kashiri, NASA Explorer Schools Education Specialist. In this seminar, Kashiri focused the discussion on finding life in extreme environments, on the Earth, and possibly on other planets. She shared a number of online resources and activity suggestions to help develop lessons on this topic. For more information about this web seminar, its presenter(s), read what participants said about it, and to see and download its PowerPoint slides go here.

NSTA Calendar
The NSTA Calendar lists the following opportunities relating to The History of Our Planet. Click here to learn about other science education events and opportunities.

Smithsonian Science Education Academies for Teachers: Earth’s History and Global Change
Global climate change will impact the lives of all inhabitants of our planet and is a key issue taught in our classrooms. This academy, taking place July 21–26, looks at change from the perspective of the history of Earth from its formation through the origin of life. Topics will include planetary processes, volcanism and plate tectonics, the oceans, and atmosphere. Each day, participants will engage Earth scientists at the Smithsonian and elsewhere in hands-on content sessions that take them behind the scenes and explore current research on our planet’s past environments.

Freebies
Freebies for Science Teachers lists various inexpensive resources for you and your classroom. Below are listings that relate to The History of Our Planet:
http://www.nsta.org/publications/grabbag.aspx
Learner Express
A curated group of short video clips
http://www.learner.org/series/modules/express
has been drawn from Annenberg Learner Express science series and workshops. The science content, targeted for teachers in grades 4–8, covers Earth and space sciences and presents videos on topics including the rock cycle, soil erosion, continental drift, and planet and solar system formation.

K–5 GeoSource
The American Geological Institute launched this professional development site
http://www.k5geosource.org/
for elementary teachers who teach Earth science topics such as rocks, weather, fossils, soil, water, and more. Teachers will find resources designed to help them master standards-based science content, plan lessons and activities in the Earth sciences, assess student learning, and tailor instructions to meet their needs.

Schoolyard Geology
This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) resource
http://education.usgs.gov/lessons/schoolyard
explains how to conduct a geologic field trip in a schoolyard or backyard. Activities include locating and identifying rocks, mapping a schoolyard, and learning geologic concepts such as glacial striations, layers, and sinkholes.

Ask-A-Geologist
Do you or your students have questions about rocks, volcanoes, earthquakes, mountains, maps, groundwater, lakes, or rivers? If so, try the USGS Ask-A-Geologist website.
http://walrus.wr.usgs.gov/ask-a-geologist
Participating scientists include geologists, hydrologists, cartographers, and technicians, ranging from recent college graduates to senior scientists.
